Ad Marginem, Moscow, 1998, “MSPS Library” collection (Vol. 10) - 639 pages, hardback
Prominent French historian Francois Furet (1927-1997) seeks to understand the reasons for the appeal of communist ideas to European intellectuals. The book contains particularly vivid portraits of European intellectuals like Georg Lukacs, Boris Souvarine, and Pierre Pascal who had served the communist cause, suffered from that utopia, and ultimately ended up fighting the socialist camp, to which they had previously given much of their lives to construct. The author destroys the illusions and legends of leftwing European mythology.
